Kelly Carney
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Kelly has been drawing her whole life starting in high school with the weekly student page of the town newspaper in Baldwinsville, NY. Taking hints from books and studying the works of others has been her main mode of art education. As a result, Kelly’s variation of styles causes each piece to be unique.
Over the years art has taken a back seat to an education in Biology and the raising of three children. Many years ago Kelly fell short of her goal of “just one piece of work.” Two of her children are now grown and on their own and her youngest is away in college. Thus, she finally has more time to devote to her art and traveling with her husband.
Kelly currently resides in Idaho Falls, ID where she lives with her loving husband who supports her art habit and the trips that inspire her.
The first thing people notice about Janet Farley’s paintings is the textured surfaces, which lead to questions about the process. Layers are sculpted using a variety of materials, including paint, thread, plants, paper, canvas, and acrylic mediums, to name a few. Sequins, glitter, and metallics add sparkle and reflective qualities.
After 30 years of painting water in the desert environs of New Mexico, Janet moved to New England’s Upper Valley. Water is still a favorite subject , with Janet drawing inspiration and renewal from the abundance of rivers, streams, ponds and marshes found in the twin states. The lush vegetation, forests, hills and rocks provide ideas for patterns and techniques to describe them. Exploring the properties that paint and water have in common is the basis for a dialogue between them. Paint is brushed, dripped, scraped, splashed and spread on the canvas, mirroring the nature and motion of the subject.
Janet has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Exhibitions in New Mexico included Hydrodynamics, a solo show at the Harwood Art Center, and On Borrowed Time, which featured works by breast cancer survivors. The show opened at the Governor’s Gallery in Santa Fe, and traveled around the state. Upper Valley venues with Strafford Artworks have included the Ledyard Gallery in the Howe Library, The Justin Morrill Homestead, the Lebanon Co-op, and the August Zollikofer Gallery in the Hotel Coolidge. A two person show, Janet², with works by Janet Farley and Janet Cathey, was held in White River at the Coolidge. Farley’s paintings are in collections in California, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Texas, Minnesota, Illinois, Vermont, and New Hampshire, among other states.
Currently living in Orford, NH, Janet has enjoyed a creative boost from the Orford Art Group. Thanks Robin, Althea, Nancy, Aimee, Paul and Don! It’s been fun sharing ideas, techniques and camaraderie with you.
Playing in the woods and along the seashore has influenced what I choose to render in my art. I am inspired by the lines, forms, shapes, colors, and movement in the natural world. I also spent many hours getting lost in the art displayed in the Yale University Art Gallery as well as visiting museums and galleries in New York City.
In grade school, I was considered talented in Art, I enrolled in several elective Art classes in high school, and started my higher education years in Studio Art and Art Education. Life Happens! For many years, I used my artistic talents in textile arts and crafts to create gifts for family and friends.
I rediscovered my drawing and painting skills and was then drawn to soft pastels with variation in techniques. Of late, I enjoy creating mosaics and dabbling in different printmaking techniques.
Always realizing my passion for art museums and maintaining memberships to many, I sought a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies with an emphasis in Museum Education from Tufts University.
Using my natural and trained skills in art, a Masters in Education, and Museum Education strategies, I teach at AVA Gallery and Art Center as Core Faculty. As a member of the Orford Art Group, I share my techniques of various media and take lead on the installation of the semi-annual Art Shows.
I have shown my artwork at Robin’s Art & Framing and the Orford Social Library in Orford, NH; AVA Gallery and Art Center, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center Volunteer and Employee Exhibitions in Lebanon, NH; ArtWorks at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH; Palisades Gallery and Frame Shop, and Chapman’s Store in Fairlee, VT; the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm in Quechee, VT; The Corsican Restaurant in Freeport, ME; as well as a private home showing in Lebanon, NH.
Aimee Howard
Lyme, NH
I have always had a love of art. I used to enjoy making crafts with my mother, my brother also has a lot of talent, but chose not to pursue art school, and my uncle has created beautiful art works using mostly oil paints. In high school I was introduced to art history and the basics of many art techniques. I was also a member of the Art Honor Society through which I was able to obtain a small scholarship for college. I then attended New England Collage in Henniker, NH and majored in Biology and Minored in art. In college I had taken a variety of art courses, but I fell in love with the design aspect of art when I enrolled in 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and graphic design. I love so many types of art from painting, pottery, and sketching to functional paper sculpture.
During and after college I started a family then a career in the sciences. Though I have lived in many places in both Maine and New Hampshire I am currently settled in the Upper Valley with my husband and two sons. I work in a lab as a histotechnologist. I always say that science is for my mind and livelihood, but art is for my heart and soul.

John Miller
Orford, New Hampshire
John has been interested in digital photography since 2002, having become a student of the natural beauty around his family’s home on Orfordville Road where they have resided since 1984. The camera has become a more or less constant companion as his circle of interest widens.
As fortune would have it, his many trips up and down Orfordville Road, camera in hand or over his shoulder, came to the casual attention of Robin and Don Weisburger. As John developed his eye for composition and slowly advanced in his skill with digital photography, Robin was (in the meantime) quite busy as an accomplished artist and frame maker. Robin encouraged John to participate as an
exhibitor in the Art and Photography Show hosted at the Weisburger home.
John currently shoots an Olympus PEN PM-1, and has continued to pursue his interest in nature subjects. He has competed in photography contests at his former workplace (Stryker Biotech) having won Best Photo, Scenery category in 2009 and has been offered an exhibit at Artful Things in Lebanon, NH. John is a member of the Orford Photography Group, organized by Cara Dyke.

Carolyn Zuaro
Northfield, Vermont
Carolyn Zuaro studied Fine Art at Skidmore College and The University at Albany as a graduate student. She is deeply inspired by the landscape and changing seasons of the North East. By attaching a collapsable easel to an old backpacking frame Carolyn hikes to interesting vantage points and paints plein air, capturing a unique sense of space which she then finishes in her studio.
